The Nursing Scholarship Program is a selective program of the U.S. Government that helps alleviate the critical shortage of nurses currently experienced by certain types of health care facilities by helping needy students complete their nurse training. In exchange for the scholarship, upon graduation, the newly minted nurses work at these facilities for at least 2 years.

In order to be eligible for Federal Financial Aid (grants and loans) during the summer term, we recommend you complete the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by May 1, 2012. The financial aid office will then review both the current award year FAFSA and next year’s to determine which offers you the best aid package. You can apply on-line at www.fafsa.gov and our school code is 030970.
If you need a federal student loan, please keep in mind the requirement of at least half-time enrollment (6 credits or higher). For those students whose aid is awarded for the summer term under the 2012-13 FAFSA, your aid cannot disburse until after July 1st. For those who anticipate a summer term refund check, please note under the 2012-13 award year you will not receive it until mid-late July based on the federal regulations of when we can disburse your aid.

Charter One wants to reward student leaders who have invested time and energy into making their community a better place. The TruFit Good Citizen Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate the difference they have made in their communities through volunteering. With a total prize allocation of $50,000, they are awarding (1) $5,000 Grand Prize, (4) $2,500 Second Prizes, and (35) $1,000 Third Prizes. Scholarship entries will be accepted April 1 – 30.

The Youngstown-Warren Ohio Black Nurses Association (YWOBNA) has scholarship assistance available for those who are in an accredited nursing program. The applicant must be an African-American residing in Mahoning or Trumbull County and have at least 3.00 grade point average. Each applicant will be evaluated on an individual basis. The deadline for applying for this scholarship is March 31st.

Women in Service to Appalachia (WSA) is pleased to offer a Scholarship of $500 for an undergraduate or a graduate student. The scholarship is intended to benefit students who are actively involved in community service.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Postmarked by May 15, 2012. Applications not accepted cannot reapply another year. Award recipient will be notified by August 15, 2012.
